Our Detroit chapter was established in 2019 and played a key role in contributing to the early policies and framework of Community Movement Builders as a national organization. CMB Detroit’s local work was operationalized through grassroots campaigns where we used place-based organizing to engage people. This approach is reflected in initiatives like the annual Backpack event, which other CMB chapters came to Detroit to support in 2019. CMB Detroit is currently cultivating a strong membership of individuals who are ready to engage in local organizing initiatives in the city.
